Buy a Wig for Vacation

You no longer have to put off a cooling, relaxing healthful  swim because you’re worried about messing up your hair. Just buy a wig for your vacation.

We are lucky to have the fourth generation of the Seminaro family running Louis XIV, a popular place for wigs and hair pieces for women, men and children. Their new location has over 1,000 wigs, and then on the lower level, there is a special section for opera (Opera de Montreal), film, theatre (Cirque du Soleil), TV productions, fashion shows and photo shoots.

Wigs and hairpieces have been worn since ancient times for hair loss, religious and cultural purposes, for convenience or for fashion. Today, not only are they used in TV, film and the performing arts, one of the industry’s best kept secrets is that celebrities and fashion models use them on a daily basis as a fashionable way to change their appearances. They are so realistic looking that we can hardly tell they are being worn.

When Louis XIV first opened, most wigs were made of human hair, were pricey and difficult to maintain with weekly drop-offs for washing and styling. Nowadays, most are synthetic so they are very affordable, easier to care for, and are so much more comfortable to wear. A quality wig that feels good and looks natural remains an investment in your wardrobe. Prices start at only $90 for a basic synthetic wig and can reach over $1000 for high quality human hair. Hair comes from India, China and Europe.

These expensive ones are hand-made onto a monofilament cap which is a see-through material allowing  your scalp to show so it looks like your hair. This is great for people with hair loss (from such illnesses such as alopecia, cancer, auto-immune diseases or just aging). If you desire a natural looking hairline, you can buy a “lace front” which allows your to pull hair back from your forehead without it looking like a wig, The most expensive ones are “full lace” in which you can part your hair wherever you want and even put it up into a ponytail .

Popular hair extensions are available as well as clip-in hair pieces which can be added to a wearers own hair or to a wig to create more volume (priced $40 to $250).

Though they are mainly a wholesaler, you too can shop there, by appointment only. The shop is quite discreet – only one customer at a time. Many customers (especially those with illnesses) prefer this privacy when selecting their wigs. Wearing a wig is a simple and convenient way to have beautiful hair.
