Q&A: Selling Used Fur Coats
Q: I was listening to you on CJAD a few days ago and I was wondering if you could steer me to any places that buy used fur coats.
A: It is very hard to sell an old fur coat. The last furrier that I knew about who bought them is no longer in my book. There are some re-cycling artisans who use them on clothing. It would be a donation, though: You can call and ask: La Gaillarde, 514-989-5134
You can have the coat made into something else at Les Fourrures Elextra 1625 Chabanel O., suite 960 Tel: 514-845-9287. If you have an old fur coat, you have such value in your closet – why let it sit there when this fur magician can transform it into something wearable and beautiful?
Opened in 1972, he knows how to make patterns from your body and how to be very imaginative with fur. Sure, he can make you a brand new coat out of mink, beaver, Persian lamb or chinchilla, but give him an old coat and his eyes sparkle with ideas. He will take it all apart, re-size it and put it all back together in a completely different way. You can easily just put it inside a reversible waterproof winter coat, or if it was a long coat, the bottom can become a hood.
He takes his tools and cuts, carves, shears, grooves and can add inserts with patterns like falling leaves, curves and squiggles, or he can even do fur ruffles. The coat can be dyed a different color. Besides the total re-modeling, he can clean your coat, do alterations, and store it for you.
You may want to take it to the “fur building” 9250 Ave du Parc and see if anyone wants it. At least one furrier there, Musi (suite 100) can make them into a blanket or a “stuffed animal” toy or pillow.
