Hidden Food area off of l’Acadie Blvd
Today I was out around the l’Acadie Blvd area, north of the Metropolitain (on the other side of the street from the big box stores in Marche Centrale) and thought you might like to know it is full of food distributors. Cananut on Mazurette is in my Smart Shopping Montreal book (pg.102) and is full of fresh (90 barrels!) nuts, beans, 10 kinds of rice, etc . Amira, next to it is also a good place. There are fruit and vegetable wholesalers in the area and more. Skip the restaurant chains in the mall if you want a bite to eat, and head for Boulangerie l’Achtaroute, 9215 Charles de la Tour. Tel: 514-387-5646. Open daily 5 a.m. -12 a.m. In an indoor-outdoor cafe like setting they serve Lebanese pizzas in about 16 flavors: parsley, shish taouk, kafta, eggplant, lahmajoun, sausage and cheese, salad and cheese and lots of desserts: maamoul filled with pistachio or walnuts, milk cake swirls, date pastry and of course fresh pita to take home.
