Pointe Claire Carpet Cleaning

Thursday, July 11th, 2013

Pointe Claire Carpet Cleaning has been in business since 1990. Trained by Eaton Home Cleaning, they learned the strictest guidelines and proper cleaning techniques. They can clean:

– carpets
– area rugs (in your home or take them off premises)
– leather sofa and chairs
– dining room chairs covered in fine fabrics, such as cotton and silks
– pet odors and stains
– mattresses
– car interiors (complete cleaning, getting rid of salt, sand, smoke odors, etc)
– water/flood damage (don’t hesitate to call in the middle of the night); can arrange contractors to renovate and restore your home
– commercial and office cleaning – with employees sitting on chairs for years, they really need        freshing up
– cooking odors in your home
– fabric protection

You may not realize that when you buy a mattress, within 10 years, it may weigh 30% more, due to sweat and skin cells accumulated. They have a service which kills dust mites and removes sweat stains and urine accidents. The mattress can also be disinfected and deodorized.

Area rugs can be re-fringed, repaired and they can take care of moth damage.

Many times it is the owner/operator doing the work so customers get all the attention they need. They are fully insured and can be left alone in your home. They have been trained to never look at the time – just do each job till it’s done right, the first time.

One of the Best Home Inspectors

Wednesday, July 10th, 2013

Besides, getting a house inspected before you buy, you may need to get one inspected before you sell, so that you can have all the defects fixed. It is also a good idea to get  periodic inspections to make sure all is okay with the most expensive item you will ever buy – your home.

Real estate agents quiver when they hear that Mr. Charney is doing the house inspection, because they’re afraid he’s too thorough. His findings have lost some sales, but some vendors are willing to negotiate about the necessary repairs.

This Harvard graduate is an architect with 43 yrs experience, and can work across N.A. He provides an estimate of what it would cost to put the house into a good state of repair, including  photos of the defects and how to fix them.

At $250 per hour, typical inspections run at $1250 for a verbal report, $2000 for a written report and $3,000 for a printed report with enlarged photos illustrating the defects. All reports are customized narratives, no check lists.  It’s money very well spent for one of the largest investments most people will ever make.

Swatches to Help Choose a Paint Color

Sunday, July 7th, 2013

It is hugely confusing to try to pick a paint color from the enormous selection that you are usually given at paint shops. Even if you take the teeny strip home, for most people it is hard to visualize what it would look like on a whole wall. How many of you had to repaint a wall or a room because you just could not live with the paint color when it dried?

Benjamin Moore has a solution. You can buy large squares (18″ x 18″) of the color from their designer collection series (CC) for only $4.99. Put it up  and move it around to different walls in the room to see how the color will look in the morning or afternoon light.

If those colors are not what you were considering, then you can buy little (236 ml) tester pots in any of the colors for the same $4.99. Paint it on, let it dry and see if you like it. Easy.

In their line of paint with the low VOC rating, you can ask for any of the colors to be made up in a larger sample size (500 ml.) for $8.99. This size is perfect for touch up years after you’ve done a room.

Tester colors are always provided in the egghell finish.

There are also tester pots for Arborcoat deck and siding stains which are also a low VOC line.

For those of you who loved oil-based paint (which have been discontinued),  you can buy the new Advance line waterbased alkyde interior paint which comes in a pearl and high gloss finish . Like oil-based paints used to be, it is very very scrubable and more durable for those areas that need this.

You can pick up these tester swatches at  the Hub, a paint and hardware store that has an old-timey neighborhood feel outside and inside it reaffirms what shopping should be. Sure it’s a hardware store (some plumbing, gardening too) with personalized service but the raison d’etre these days is the bubbly decorating consultant who offers you a cappuccino and steers you through any decorating dilemmas (can even come to your house if needed). There’s Benjamin Moore paint, tons of wallpaper books, fabrics for curtains, blinds & shutters, Richelieu hardware, supplies to do the project, or even her little black book of experts to do it all for you.

Locations: 441 boul. Beaconsfield, Beaconsfield (514-695-3389); DDO, 3460 boul. des Sources (514-421-1454).
