The accessories are 50% of what they sold for in the store and furniture is 30% to 70% off. This is the best part – they then take an additional 20% off here. Expect to find furniture, lamps, tables, vases, sofas, shower curtains, stools, rugs, desks, mirrors, etc. This is a temporary location which could be closed by November – or not. This location is closing at the end of April and proceeds from the sell off are being donated to pediatrician Dr. Julien’s clinic for street kids.

The Sony stores were above it all, never offering any lowered prices on its merchandise, however this March it has offered us its First Annual Big Secret Event. When you go to a Sony store, you get a secret decoder which allows you to find the secret in-store deals. Sounds like a fun treasure hunt.

Back in the olden days when I first started writing my Smart Shopping Montreal book, each of the major department stores had a clearance store. There was one for Eaton’s (I still have my washer and dryer that I bought there), the Baie and Sears. Then there was none.
Finally Sears re-opened one up in Carre Decarie and it seems to be hanging in there. You know their reputation for good service, and now you can buy their large appliances (fridges, stoves, dishwashers, washers, dryers) at greatly reduced prices. Then you can peruse the loungers, sofas, end tables, exercise bikes, chairs and TV’s.

How many stores in the city have managed to last 100 years? A century ago Omer de Serres as a young man of 27 bought an ironworks business. In 1913 he turned it into a hardware store which was on the corner of St. Denis and Ste. Catherine St. With an art school nearby, the business gradually moved into selling art supplies. Today Marc DeSerres, his grandson runs the company, now with 26 stores across Canada.
