Cheer Someone Up, Mail Them St-Viateur Bagels

Wednesday, January 27th, 2021

St-Viateur Bagel offers delivery throughout  North America. Since no one can get here during the pandemic, what better way to cheer someone up than by sending them to someone who misses Montreal, or  anyone who you’d like to share a taste of Montreal. Place your order at: stviateurbagel.com/en/shop

What can be more synonymous with Montreal then the legendary St-Viateur Bagel, baked at the longest running bagel shop in Montréal? This family business has had over 65 years of tradition and one famous recipe throughout the years. Made with 100% natural ingredients, their bagels contain no artificial preservatives.

What makes St-Viateur’s bagels so special: each bagel is hand-rolled, dipped in honey water, and baked in a wood-fired oven that was designed to both bake and flavor the bagel. What comes out of this process is a light, chewy, slightly sweet bagel, that bagel aficionados’ will agree, is incomparable to any other bagel being made today.

For decades they churned out a constant stream of white (sesame seed) and black (poppy seed) bagels. Nowadays, they have  bagels for every taste including multigrain, cinnamon & raisin, flax, rosemary, all dressed, sea salt and more. We can all agree that nothing compares to the flavorful aroma that consumes you as you walk in and you won’t be able to resist eating a hot one straight from the oven, right out of the paper bag.

Smeared with cream cheese, layered with lox, or simply toasted – St Viateur bagels are delicious for breakfast, lunch or absolutely any time of day.

Original location: 263 St-Viateur Ouest, H2V 1Y1 (514-276-8044)

Other locations:  821 boul Tecumseh, DDO H9R 4X8 (514-542-3344); 1127 Mont-Royal Est, H2J 1X9 (514-528-6361); 1585 Dagenais O., Laval, H7L 5A3 (450-625-5552).

Q&A: Get Rugs, Carpets (and more) Cleaned for the Holidays

Wednesday, November 2nd, 2016

Q: I bought your book and it has loads of great resources but I couldn’t find a place to clean my rugs.
Could you help me with this please?

A:  Cleaning rugs is listed under specialty services on my website www.smartshoppingmontreal.com

Pointe Claire Carpet Cleaning has been in business since 1990. Trained by Eaton Home Cleaning, they learned the strictest guidelines and proper cleaning techniques. They can clean:

– carpets
– area rugs (in your home or take them off premises)
– leather sofa and chairs
– dining room chairs covered in fine fabrics, such as cotton and silks
– pet odors and stains
– mattresses
– car interiors (complete cleaning, getting rid of salt, sand, smoke odors, etc)
– water/flood damage (don’t hesitate to call in the middle of the night); can arrange contractors to renovate and restore your home
– commercial and office cleaning – with employees sitting on chairs for years, they really need freshening up
– cooking odors in your home
– fabric protection

You may not realize that when you buy a mattress, within 10 years, it may weigh 30% more, due to sweat and skin cells accumulated. They have a service which kills dust mites and removes sweat stains and urine accidents. The mattress can also be disinfected and deodorized.

Area rugs can be re-fringed, repaired and they can take care of moth damage.

Ecological Cleaning for your UGG Boots and Other Items too

Friday, November 21st, 2014

If you’re wondering how to get your UGG boots cleaned, it’s time to head to Nettoyeur Écologique Royal Eco-cleaner. Since winters are hard on your UGGs with snow and salt stains, they have developed tools and techniques to properly hand-spot, clean and restore them to near perfect condition. Afterwards the UGGs are shower-proofed for further protection from the elements.

Nettoyeur Écologique Royal uses a Professional Wet Cleaning or SMART Wet Cleaning to dry clean your clothes. It is a solvent-free technology using mainly water plus 100% bio-degradable organic soaps along with state of the art washing, drying and finishing machines. No toxic ingredients are used at all.

When clothes are dry-cleaned elsewhere, stains are pre-treated and the clothing is thrown into a washing/drying machine filled with chemical solvent. About 90% of dry cleaners (even more in Quebec) use the chemical solvent called PERC (perchloroethylene). Perc has been seen to damage the nervous and reproductive systems (per the U.S. EPA), and is designated a hazardous air pollutant by the Federal government. After the year 2000, in Canada, perc emission-free machines can only be installed.

Another 10% (or less) of dry cleaners are using petroleum-based solvents (i.e. hydrocarbon), called “organic” solvents, which are listed by the EPA as a neurotoxin and skin and eye irritant for workers.

Nettoyeur Écologique Royal Eco-cleaner can healthily clean casual and business clothing, home goods, purses, sporting goods. There’s a seamstress and tailoring available too.
